Centella asiatica

Malay name: Chenkian, Chemekian, Tuba Kian
Other names: Hydrocotyle asiatica, Gotu Kola, Asya Sutasi, Brahmi, Pennywort, Marsh Penny, Pegagan, Penggaga, White rot, Buabok, Hydrocotyle cordifolia.

Information

Green plants creeping on the ground. It is kidney-shaped with a long handle 20 cm. The flowers are small, less than 3mm and pink or reddish.

Local use

The reported use of drugs include a fever, tonic, diuretic, anti-bacterial, antispasma, antiintinflamasi, hypotensive and insecticide.

It is also used as the reinforcement of memory, skin disease, dislocation, leprosy, antialergi agents, anticancer, hypotensive, stimulant. It is also used to treat kidney stones, bloody urine, venereal disease, wounds, sores and sore throats.

It is also said to be a young preservatives.

Effects of Poisoning

Can cause skin irritation or dermatitis. At high doses of this plant may affect the stimulation of the brain and cause headaches, drowsiness and coma.

Asiaticoside have a carcinogenic effect while Brahmoside and Brahminoside also has a sedative effect.
