Azadirachta indica

Introduction

Family: Meliaceae
Malay name: Mambu, Semambu
Other Name: Neen tree, Margosa Tree, Indian Lilac, Neem

Information

This plant can grow and reach a height of 20-60 feet. It is always green and said to be living to 200 years. It is also resistant to the change in weather. The fruit of this plant has a shell.

Local use

Used to treat diseases such as measles, high blood pressure, diabetes, various types of fever, cancer, arthritis, skin problems and hemorrhoids. It also is said to be useful as a poison ants and termites.

Excess

Used in the manufacture of antiseptics, toothpaste, soap and moisturizer.

It is also reported to have effects such as anti-tumor, antibacterial, antinflamatori, anti-arthritic, anti-ulcer, antimalarial and antipyretic.

Poisoned

Toxic Part: Leaves, fruits and stems

Active Ingredients: Leaves contain Paraisine. The fruit is Azaridines and azadirachtin A-G. Margosine and bark contain tannin.      
Other Ingredients: Genudin, Margosone and Margosolone.

Effects of Poisoning

May cause severe irritation of the skin, abdominal pain, stimulates the central nervous system, mental stress and difficulty breathing.
